Learn to Count in Japanese
Counting in Japanese is very simple. Unlike English once you can count to 10 you can count to 100. The system is as follows:
- 1 is ichi (each or each ee); 2 is ni (knee) etc. to 10 Juu (joo). See below for whole list.
- When you get to 11 you just say 10 1( juu ichi) then 2 10 (juu ni) and so on.
- When you get to 20, you just say 2 10 ni juu (knee joo) then 21 is ni juu ni.
- 100 is hyaku.
For example:
- 10 is Juu and San is 3, so 13 would be Juu san. And 30 would San Juu (3 10).
- 2 is Ni so 22 would be Ni Juu (2 10) ni.
